Notes on 2023.03.07 AU conference.
Two to one, Americans reject Christian Nationalists (CN) worldview
Most CNs agree with separation too: 63% (79% ?) of CNs and adherents still think they prefer a separation of church and state <they also want to keep government out of the sacred
Half the country hasn't heard of CN
Locally, Presbyterian & Congregational want separation
Call it out: EDUCATION is required
Check and expose the misinformation
Remind everyone this is Not and never was a Christian nation!
The abortion argument is a religious argument
The schools voucher system is mostly a religious undertaking
White Evangelical Protestants = 14%, or 22 million voters (of 158) – but maybe they vote more? (240 million people were eligible to vote in the 2020 presidential election and roughly 66.1% of them submitted ballots, totaling about 158 million.. 14% = 30 million eligible)
Seminar opened by Brian Silva for SRF – Summit for Religious Freedom, for AU's conferences. “AU is the only institute solely dedicated to separation of church & state.” FFRF exposure in Q&A.
PRRI (Public Religion Research Institute – Form 990) & Brookings – Form 990
2 weeks ago – PRRI presented survey to try and understand the Christian Nationalist (CN) movement and how big it is. 5600 Americans surveyed – high confidence in sample.
73% want a wide variety of religions 27% want christian
CNs over 50, without 4-yr college degree, 25+ points to disagree there is racism
240 million people were eligible to vote in the 2020 presidential election and roughly 66.1% of them submitted ballots, totaling about 158 million.. 14% = 30 million
40% of CNs would support violence vs. 16% of all Americans Jones thinks it's driven by demographics – white minority scared
A lot of Americans aren't connecting abortion rights to religious freedom.
Some traction pointing out it's a minority seeking privilege – others will be bound but not protected, which is VERY undemocratic! Great risk!
White Evangelical Protestants = 14%, or 22 million voters (of 158) – but maybe they vote more?
